Here are my quick thoughts:

Not sure the Isearalites really did fear God, because their fear should have kept them from sinning (Ex:v20), and as we see time and time again they forsake God for their own idols and desires. Sounds like our lives today.

I think we fear God in the same way the Isearlites did...not very well...as we turn from God like the Isearalites. In short we think we are bigger than God. In a book called Radical by Dave Platt, he descibes our Christianity this way...that we "make Jesus in our image" vs us reflecting the image of Christ.

If we fear God as we should then it would keep us from sinning. Similarly, if we live in Christ then we should not continue sinning...but we do. We typically fear ourselves more than God and worship ourselves more than God.

Fear and Love: how do we define these words in our life/culture and how does the bible define them? These are good questions to ponder and test against our beliefs and lives. The closest analogy I can think of off the top of my head in regards to how we fear God is our fear of a police officer. When we see a police officer on the side of the road, we slow down in fear of a speeding ticket. God is always seeing and knowing, but we don't even slow down much less understanding that the penalty we deserve is death (not just a ticket). The police officer is not the bad guy and similarly God is not a bad God. As for love, I think this is for a different post.

We should fear God as it states in Philipian 2:12. A reverant fear, that understands how big God is, how powerful and all knowing He is. The fear we should have for Him should help us understand how much He loves us and how much we need Him.

...just some quick thoughts...Be the River!

Hey everyone,
If you read this let me know what you think. Are we supposed to fear God the way the people of Egypt did they had more fear of him than love. Is that because at this point an time Jesus didn't die on the cross so they didn't know how powerful him love is. All they know is the pain he caused to the ones who didn't follow and believe in him. I try and think if i was there at this time how would I follow someone who has put people through pain an suffering because of lack of belief. So do you think some of the people came to follow in fear and not love.

Hey, a while back i wrote a blog about Moses getting the Law on Mt Sinai. It may put some things in perspective for ya, Mike.
http://smoiblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/gift-of-torah-and-gift-of-holy-spirit.html
You're absolutely right. Each piece of Scripture, each chapter, is a link in the chain of the big story.
If anyone wants to read the whole story, i would encourage them to do it chronologically (in the order that it happened). Though the Bible is fine as it is, it was canonized (or assembled book-by-book) out of chronological order. I'm doing that this year and it's really putting things in perspective. You can buy a chronological Bible for pretty cheap, but it's also online in a 365-day reading guide in chronological order here: http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/devotions/chronological.
Have fun with it,
'til the whole world hears,

i finding this story very interesting in that God is now getting ready to set rules to the people first he establishes leaders now rules. Its funny how i didn't even realize what he was doing in the story until i take it one chapter at a time. So all the plague were to teach the people who and how powerful he is. Then he helps Moses to deal with all there issues by making him chose leaders and now he will lay down structure this seems like the creation of the first church to me or was there one before this but maybe not the way God wanted it so he used Moses to create it this way? This is the way churches are made today you get believers, leaders, and structure not necessarily in that order but all of those things happen in every church.

To me this hole situation seems like the catholic church where you ask a priest for forgiveness and he talks to God. Is this just the way they did it before Christ? To me this seems like a scene for disaster when you put too many people in charge it increases the chances of people to take advantage of their responsibility. They could advise the people to do the wrong thing instead of the right. This just seems more of a way to take pressure off of moses than a better way of helping everyone. Why isn't God involved in the decision if we are supposed to keep him #1 he should be in everything, every decision, every solution, every problem , ext... I just don't see or maybe want to see how confessing your sins to someone other than GOD is going to give you peace. You can confess them to GOD then others thats perfectly fine but you would be more asking for advice to them than confessing. I'm not sure let me know what yous think.

I know if you are anything like me sometimes i pick and choose what i trust God with. And the word calls us to trust us with everything. That is a topic easier said than done. I think the hardest thing to do is to trust him with my money. The more we try to stay consistant with out faith it seems that distractions try to sidetrack us.

I understand that God loves me no matter what i do good or bad. But i'm starting to realize that my issue is patience, when i get impatient of Gods calling for me i seem to become frustrated and start to turn away. But then i think of this most people will have live more life without christ than with him. Everything takes time especialy change and the way God changes us. Yes you probaly say then what is the reason for this post if i know what to do just do it. But it is easier said than done, is anyone else struggle with this?
